Our projects Water Truck- Tanzania Donate Fundraise TARGET: $30,000 In and around the rural regions in Tanzania, where over 50% of the population live, clean water is tough to come about. This often results in people having to walk long distances to collect water without the guarantee that the water they collect will be disease-free. Often open area lakes and dams are shared not only with livestock but also with wildlife leading to the transmission of numerous infectious diseases and loss of life. Additionally, these trips to the watering holes often mean that young members of the family regularly spend a large portion of time away from more productive activities. Unfortunately due to the geology of some regions, especially around Arusha, in the north-west of the country, digging wells is not an option as the water is too salty for drinking. For the past 12 years, our partners, Khatmul Ambiyaa, has been regularly (4 visits to schools and 2 visits to villages per week) distributing 10,000 litres of clean drinking water to the worst affected villages in rural and remote areas around Arusha. These trips increase in frequency in times of drought. The truck used, unfortunately, has fulfilled its purpose faithfully and is in desperate need of replacement. We are appealing to the generous community to support this project to restore this vital service. The organisation has identified a truck they wish to import. This truck will be modified for local conditions before being commissioned for use. More information will follow.
